India completely deflated England at the end of what will feel like an arduous tour for the visitors where they could win only one match put of eight. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India completed a 3-0 series sweep and put themselves in ideal momentum before the Champions Trophy.
England ended up winning the toss once again, but put India in this time. And it almost worked as Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the second over itself. Virat Kohli (52 off 55) and Shubman Gill (112 off 102) then shared in a stand worth 116 that had started very circumspect but managed to pick up the pace at the right time. Shreyas Iyer (78 off 64) made another century stand with Shubman Gill to propel India’s innings. With Adil Rashid (4 for 64) doing most of the damage in the middle overs, India’s lower order had to huff and puff to 356.
England made a strong start in the powerplay with Ben Duckett as usual at the forefront of things, but as has been the story of the series, his dismissal opened the doors for India to make a comeback. Phil Salt, Tom Banton and Jos Buttler all got starts, but the pressure applied by India’s spinnners in the middle overs was too much to overcome as they slumped to a 142 run-loss.
