England white-ball captain Jos Buttler was ruled out of the T20I series against Australia owing to a calf injury. Phil Salt was named the new leader and under his captaincy, England suffered a defeat in the first T20I but made a strong comeback in Cardiff to win the second match. The third and final match of the series was called off due to rain as the series finished on level terms.
Speaking about his maiden captaincy stint for England, Salt stated that it was a very different experience but he has enjoyed the added responsibility that was bestowed upon him. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old also contributed with the bat, scoring 59 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 168.57.

“I’ve enjoyed it, it’s different, it’s the first time in an England shirt I’ve had to look at the game differently, but I’ve enjoyed the added responsibility,” Salt said after the match, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Salt was elated to see England make an excellent comeback in Cardiff, after losing the first T20I by 28 runs. In the second game, Liam Livingstone wreaked havoc, as he smashed 87 runs off 47 deliveries and also picked up two wickets.
England comfortably won the game by three wickets. The England skipper noted that Australia found it hard to defend, especially with many of their senior pacers not available, and added that the more time they spend as a group, the better will be their chances in major tournaments.

“I’m very proud of this team. When you lose the first one you’re always under pressure, and we came back harder. When we get on top we can really put our foot down. I think the Aussies found it hard to defend in Cardiff. We want to win a bilateral series, the more time we spend together as a group, the better we’ll be as a team when those big tournaments come around,” Salt said.
