According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have submitted a £1.25 million bid to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Freddy Bernal.
However, the West Londoners have rejected their offer for the talented teenager, insisting the player is not for sale.
Bernal has made big strides in recent years, impressing several clubs with his performances at youth level.
The 16-year-old has started five games for the Blues under-18s this season, while he was also part of the England under-18s squad during the March international break.
Given Bernal’s huge potential, Chelsea are not willing to listen to any offers for him this summer.
However, the transfer news is a little surprising for Arsenal fans as their club already have many options for the goalkeeper position at youth level.
Jack Porter, who joined the Gunners’ academy in 2020, has seen a huge development in recent seasons.
After impressing with his performances for the youth teams, Porter was picked by Mikel Arteta to make his first-team debut against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup in September. At the age of 16 years old and 72 days, he became the second youngest player to ever start a game for the London giants.
Arsenal also have Tommy Setford in their academy system, who is highly rated for his abilities and earned his competitive debut against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup in October.
Furthermore, the Premier League outfit are also pursuing a move for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia to provide competition for David Raya.
Arsenal have endured another disappointing campaign, as they failed to win any trophy under Arteta.
The Spanish boss will now look to bolster his attacking options in the summer transfer window. The Gunners have been linked with an interest in Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.
