Indian captain Shubman Gill provided an update on Rishabh Pant’s injury, stating that the wicketkeeper-batter’s finger issue is not overly serious, and he is expected to be available for the next Test in Manchester. Pant injured the index finger of his left hand while attempting to collect a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah during England’s first innings at Lord’s.
Although he completed that over, he did not keep wickets for the remainder of the match. Substitute Dhruv Jurel took over the duties with the gloves behind the wickets, while Pant batted in both innings despite the injury. The Three Lions eventually won the important third Test by 22 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
“Rishabh went for scans and there is no major injury there. I think he should be fine for the next test match,” Gill said to the reporters, as quoted by DD News.
Pant is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, having scored 425 runs from six innings, including two centuries. He trails only captain, who leads the chart with 607 runs in the three Test played so far. As a result, his availability becomes crucial for the Indian team, which is currently trailing 1-2 in the five-match series with a couple of more game to go with.

Tensions ran high throughout the fiercely contested third Test at the iconic Lord’s, London. Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was fined and handed one demerit point for his send-off after dismissing England opener Ben Duckett. Despite the heated moments, Gill acknowledged that the intensity had added spice to the series, but emphasized that both teams maintained mutual respect on the field.
“You’re giving everything physically and mentally, so there are going to moments where there’s going to be a little bit of heat from both sides. I think that’s what makes it so exciting, that’s what makes it more challenging. But the next time we play each other, there won’t be (any bad blood). There’s a lot of admiration within the two teams,” Gill said.
The fourth Test is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester, beginning on July 23. India will be aiming to level the series 2-2, while the hosts will look to seal the series with a win.
