Vijay Hazare Trophy is a limited-overs domestic tournament in India that began in 2003 and continues to thrive. In the 23rd edition of the tournament (2024-25), Karnataka clinched the title for the fifth time, equalling Tamil Nadu’s record for most wins.
Vidarbha captain Karun Nair was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the competition. Vidarbha dominated the entire season with eight consecutive wins but unfortunately lost in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 having qualified for the final for the first time. Meanwhile, Karnataka secured their fifth title of the Competition, maintaining their unbeaten record in tournament finals.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season, Nair was in sensational form, amassing 779 runs in just eight innings, making it the third-highest run tally in a single edition of the tournament. His impressive feat includes five centuries and one fifty. In the semifinal match against Maharashtra, Karun played a stunning unbeaten knock of 88 runs off 44 balls. He was supported by Dhruv Shorey and Yash Rathod, who built a 224-run opening partnership, marking the third-highest opening partnership in a knockout game of the VHT.
Knocking on the door of the Indian national team, Karun Nair made the Vijay Hazare Trophy his own, averaging a remarkable 389.50 in the tournament. This effort from Mayank Agarwal paved the way for Karnataka’s 41-run victory, securing their third trophy under the leadership of Karun Nair. Throughout the season, Mayank Agarwal accumulated 723 runs in eight innings, maintaining an outstanding average of 90.37.
4. 737 Runs – Devdutt Padikkal (2020/21)
Despite his team losing in the semi-final, Devdutt Padikkal achieved a remarkable feat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy’s 19th edition. Padikkal scored 737 runs in just seven innings, averaging 147.40, guiding Karnataka to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, his team fell short by 72 runs against Mumbai in Delhi. Padikkal was the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament, with Prithvi Shaw emerging as the highest run-scorer of the season.
3. 779 Runs – Karun Nair (2024/25)
Nair, the latest edition, was phenomenal with the bat, getting out only twice in the tournament. His remarkable contribution to the batting lineup helped Vidarbha reach the finals. The ace batter ended the tournament with an astounding average of 389.50, the highest in the history of the List A tournament. He smashed five centuries and one fifty in his eight innings during the tournament. Failing to go big in the final against Karnataka was one of the reasons that Vidarbha could not lift the elusive silverware.

2. 827 Runs – Prtihvi Shaw (2020/21)
In the 19th edition of the tournament, Mumbai lifted the trophy for the fourth time, remaining unbeaten throughout the competition. Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw leading the chart of most runs, scoring 827 runs in eight innings, marking the second-most runs in a single edition of the tournament. Throughout the season, Shaw led the batting charts at an astonishing average of 165.40 and also hit four centuries, including a double hundred as well, and a solitary half-century.
1. 830 Runs – Narayan Jagadeesan (2022/23)
The right-handed batter from Tamil Nadu has been outstanding with the bat in the 21st edition of the tournament (2022-23), accumulating 830 runs in just eight innings with an exceptional average of 138.33. Jagadeesan led his team to the quarter-finals, they were defeated by Saurashtra, the eventually champions of the season. Narayan Jagadeesan set a new record, scoring the most runs in a single edition of the tournament, and the record remains unassailed till date.
