Former England captain Michael Vaughan has predicted India, England, Pakistan and South Africa will qualify for the semi finals of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
“Can’t wait for the World Cup to start this week .. My 4 semi finalists will be … England, South Africa, India and Pakistan,” tweeted Vaughan.
The prediction created quite the stir on social media, with his omission of five-time champions Australia in the spotlight. However, rather than criticise Vaughan for leaving Pat Cummins’ team out, many celebrated given Vaughan’s history of jinxing teams on social media.
With Australia’s joy comes concern from other fans. India fans, among others, have sarcastically (or not) congratulated Australia on their sixth World Cup title.
Australia’s World Cup campaign will begin with a blockbuster against India at Chennai on October 8. Before then, England will take on New Zealand in the tournament opener, followed by Netherlands vs Pakistan on October 6 and Afghanistan vs Bangladesh and South Africa vs Sri Lanka on October 7.
