We are approaching the end of the qualification campaign for the Euro 2024. After the matches in September, several teams are now on the verge of booking their tickets for the European Championship in Germany.
Below we look at the countries that are best positioned to qualify for the prestigious tournament.
1- France
France have enjoyed an excellent qualification campaign. They have won all five matches to be at the summit of Group B, which comprises Netherlands, Greece, Ireland, and Gibraltar. What is even more incredible is the fact that Les Blues haven’t conceded a single goal in all games.
With their squad consisting of a mix of veterans and exciting youngsters, France are the top favourites to win the Euros next year.
2- England
Qualification in the European competition is almost secured for England after winning four of their five matches in Group C. However, their winning streak came to an end last week against Ukraine, who held them to a 1-1 draw.
Gareth Southgate’s side reached the final of the last Euros, but can they go all the way to lift the trophy this time? With the amount of talent in the team, it is hard not to back them for success in Germany.
3- Portugal
Portugal have been the most dominating side in the qualifiers, winning six from six without even conceding a goal. They have been playing impressive football under new manager Roberto Martinez.
Portugal sealed an emphatic 9-0 success over Luxembourg earlier this week, with three of their players scoring twice. They will be looking to claim their second Euro title when they head to Germany next summer.
4- Belgium
Belgium were hugely disappointing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. But there have been many positives for Domenico Tedesco’s side in recent weeks, especially the form of Romelu Lukaku who scored twice in their 5-0 victory over Estonia.
With four wins from their five qualifying games, Belgium are poised to qualify for the 2024 European Championship. But it remains to be seen whether they have the capability to go all the way to the final and claim the coveted trophy.
5- Scotland
Scotland have been hugely impressive in the qualifiers, with Steve Clarke’s side winning all five matches to be on the verge of sealing a place in the prestigious tournament. Their group featured Spain, Norway, Georgia and Cyprus but they prevailed over them all.
Scotland have a talented squad and a very shrewd manager in Steve Clarke. Scott McTominay has been their star player, who has registered six goals so far in the tournament.
